Starting early this month, our pond management vendor will begin mapping our neighborhood ponds. This process, known as bathymetry, measures depth and contours, providing essential data for effective pond maintenance. The information gathered will help ensure the proper application of aquatic weed and algae control treatments, optimize the placement of fountains and aeration devices, and assess whether muck removal treatments are needed.
Over time, fertilizers, stormwater runoff, and organic pollutants accumulate at the bottom of ponds, forming a layer of decaying muck. This buildup gradually reduces water depth, depletes oxygen levels, and disrupts the pond’s natural balance. To address this, we may use biological muck removal treatments—a cost-effective and minimally invasive alternative to mechanical dredging. These treatments target excess nutrients in the muck, helping to restore water quality, enhance biodiversity, and reduce the need for chemical treatments by minimizing algal blooms.
If you live near one of our ponds, you can help improve water quality by keeping lawn fertilizers and chemical treatments at least 10 feet away from the water’s edge. This buffer zone, maintained by the HOA through our vendor, plays a crucial role in protecting our ponds from unnecessary nutrient buildup.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our ponds clean and healthy for everyone to enjoy!
